Welcome to Japan! Transfer to the hotel via shuttle bus. In the late afternoon, enjoy a trip on the metro (tickets included) to Shinjuku—Tokyo’s vibrant nightlife district bustling with crowds and neon lights. Dinner included before returning to the hotel.
After breakfast, embark on a guided 5-hour tour of Tokyo. Visit Zojoji Temple, famous for its hundreds of Jizo statues and view of Tokyo Tower. Experience the famous Shibuya Crossing, the busiest intersection worldwide. Visit the serene Meiji Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife. Drive along Omotesando, an elegant boulevard, and admire the Imperial Palace gardens and the iconic Nijubashi Bridge. Explore Akihabara, the “Electric Town” known for manga and anime culture, and visit Kokugikan Sumo Stadium. End the tour at Sensoji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple, followed by free time in the Nakamise shopping street in Asakusa. Lunch included. Afternoon at leisure. Note: During the Olympics, accommodation might be near Narita Airport.
After breakfast, transfer to the station for your bullet train ride to Kyoto (approx. 2 hours 45 minutes). Kyoto, Japan’s former capital, is rich in culture and history. Visit Kinkakuji (“Golden Pavilion”), the Imperial Palace, and Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its thousands of red torii gates. Spend some free time before exploring Gion, the traditional district renowned for its geisha culture. Overnight in Kyoto.
After breakfast, travel through the scenic countryside to Tsumago, a charming village with traditional wooden houses. Continue to Matsumoto, visiting its 16th-century “Crow Castle.” Enjoy some free time to explore the city before heading to Nagano for overnight stay. Lunch included.
After breakfast, visit Zenko-ji Temple, a major pilgrimage site, and participate in the Gomakuyo ceremony for good luck. Head to the Japanese Alps and explore Jigokudani Monkey Park, famous for wild macaques bathing in natural hot springs. After lunch, visit Kusatsu, a lively spa town, and enjoy the traditional Yumomi performance showcasing the cooling of hot spring water through song and dance. Continue to Ikaho, a picturesque hot spring town known for its historic staircases. Stay overnight in a Ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) and enjoy its baths. Note: Monkey sightings and Kusatsu visits may vary by season. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
After breakfast, visit Nikko’s stunning Toshogu Shrine, known for its ornate carvings and “Room of the Dragon” sound effects. See the peaceful Taiyuinbyo Mausoleum and stroll along Kanmangafuchi, lined with hundreds of Jizo statues. Enjoy some free time before returning to Tokyo, arriving around 6:30 PM.
